Otto Kylmälä is a Finnish filmmaker whose films, commercials and music videos have been awarded in Finland and abroad.

 

Over the years, he has developed a dark, atmospheric style that focuses on strong narrative, actor direction and the creative use of visuals and music. Nevertheless Otto is capable of adapting himself to any style necessary for the project. This comes across well in his commercial work where, over the course of over 35 TVCs, he has been directing fun, playful and colorful projects. 

 

His latest film as a producer, ‘The Moonshiners’ was nominated as the best short film of the year in the Finnish Oscar's and is currently touring festivals such as Palm Springs, Chicago, Oberhausen, Leuven and Tampere.

 

Barcelona (2019) is his latest film, which he wrote, directed and produced.

Besides working as a film director, he is also the Artistic Director of Loud Silents Festival and he also curates for various other international film festivals around Europe. As a critic he is a member of FIPRESCI and he has served in short film and music video juries in Ireland, Finland and Norway.

He was previously represented by The Magic in the Baltics and Dench/Arnold in the UK. Currently he is working as a freelance director based in Helsinki, Finland.
